Springfield’s Jonathan Dayton High School was in the news on National Signing Day thanks to local football sensation Anthony Cioffi.  In his junior year last February, Cioffi was the first to offer his verbal commitment to new Rutgers coach Kyle Flood for the Class of 2013.  He was courted by a number of NCAA schools but ultimately chose Rutgers when offered a scholarship.  Cioffi finally signed his National Letter of Intent on February 6, 2013, the first day he could officially commit.  The 6’0″, 180 pound defensive back has a personal record of 4.4 for a 40 yard dash.  On February 5, 2013, the official Rutgers Football Facebook page featured a photo of Cioffi with the statement: “Please welcome Anthony Cioffi to RFamily! Anthony had 80 tackles, three interceptions, three fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and two sacks as a senior. On offense, Anthony rushed for 896 yards and five touchdowns (11.5 yards per carry) as a quarterback. Anthony is rated the #31 safety prospect nationally by Rivals.com.”  The post received over 350 “likes”.
