Early reports indicate Frank Fiorelli, 61, a former Captain in the Springfield Fire Department, was arrested by the New Jersey State Police.  The charges are not yet known and the New Jersey State Police is expected to publish a press release.

According to neighborhood chatter, countless law enforcement vehicles were spotted on South Springfield Avenue and entry was made at 604 South Springfield Avenue in the early hours of Tuesday morning.  The home, belonging to Frank and Nancy Fiorelli, is next door to the Springfield Senior Citizen Housing and across the street from the Jehovah’s Witnesses Congregation.  A black Chevrolet vehicle with Firefighter license plate was seen parked in the driveway of the shuttered home.

Public records show Fiorelli submitted retirement from the Springfield Fire Department August 21, 2012.  The October 15, 2012 Board List from the State Division of Pension and Benefits lists Fiorelli’s retirement effective September 1, 2012 after 26 years and 8 months of service.  His resignation was accepted unceremoniously by the Springfield Township Committee on August 28, 2012 after a “Closed Session” meeting which listed “Fire Capt. Frank Fiorelli” as a matter of discussion.  The nature of the discussion is not known but sources revealed that Fiorelli was denied access to the firehouse in the middle of August.  It is not clear whether the arrest is related to his resignation.  Fiorelli was promoted to Captain on November 10, 2008 under former Mayor Bart Fraenkel.
