According to a Monday, March 11, 2013 press release, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie filed over fifty nominations and direct appointments with the State Senate and Secretary of State’s Office.  Among the many names is Springfield resident and former Township Committeeman Marc Krauss for a seat on the Veterans’ Services Council.  The Council was established by the New Jersey State Legislature and operates under the legal authority in N.J.S.A. 13:1B-20.  The State of New Jersey Boards, Commissions, and Authorities website indicates “the primary purpose of the Council is to formulate comprehensive policies for the coordination of all services benefiting war veterans and their dependents.”  It falls within the Department of Military and Veterans’ Affairs.  The Council consists of 12 members, at least two must be women and each member must be a veteran.  There have been a number of vacancies on the Council for well over a year.  The State of New Jersey website shows eight vacancies but the Governor has filed nine appointments.  Anyone can submit their resume for consideration to be appointed to a position on any of 486 boards.

Krauss is a retired United States Army Major and a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  He is a member of Springfield Jewish War Veterans Post 273 and lives in Springfield with his wife, Julie, and children, Judah and Gemma.  Krauss was elected as a Republican member of the Springfield Township Committee from 2010 through 2012.  Because the Governor’s nominations are subject to advice and consent, Krauss’ nomination awaits confirmation by the State Senate.
