The New Jersey Department of Transportation plans to begin work on the Springfield section of Morris Avenue tonight, Tuesday, May 14th.  Construction on Morris Avenue, or New Jersey Route 124, was scheduled to begin in October 2012, prior to Hurricane Sandy.  The project was canceled last year and the work had been rescheduled for March.   Due to weather concerns, the timeline was adjusted twice  in March and the last postponement coincided with April Fools’ Day.

The portion of Route 124 that will be under construction is from Milepost 10.50 to Milepost 11.10, or Short Hills Avenue to Mountain Avenue, in both directions.  The Department of Transportation plans to close two lanes at a time in each direction because of the absence of a shoulder, center median and the heavy equipment necessary.  The traffic will be shifted to the open lane in the other direction creating one-lane travel in both directions.

The work will be performed between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Tuesday night through Friday.  The project is expected to be completed on Fridayt, May 17th.  An automated telephone call message is being made this afternoon and can be heard below.
