Beauty and the Beast JrFor the second year in a row, Springfield’s Jonathan Dayton High School will host Community Access Unlimited for a theatrical performance by the Community Players.  In 2012, they presented Seussical Jr.  This weekend, starting tonight, they will perform Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Jr.  The show starts 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 28th and Saturday, June 29th.  The final show is Sunday, June 30th at 2:00 p.m.  Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students, children and senior citizens.

According to the organization, “The CAU Community Players was established in 2011 by Community Access Unlimited (CAU) as an exciting new opportunity for its members to collaborate with the community to create an incredibly unique and inspiring theatre experience.”  The actors include local adults and students who work with Community Access Unlimited members with disabilities.

The cast of 80 has been rehearsing for weeks in preparation for the show.  Last week, they were visited by Patrick Lavery, a veteran actor who played the teacup Chip in Beauty and the Beast on Broadway.  Belle will be played by Kelsey Durkin and the Prince/Beast by Johnny Bitetto. Community Access Unlimited “provides support and gives a voice to adults and youth who traditionally have had little support and no voice in society.” Their motto is “supporting people with special needs in achieving real lives.” More information is available on their website at www.caunj.org
