The official “ribbon cutting” for the highly anticipated Jonathan Dayton High School Athletic Field has been tentatively scheduled to coincide with the first evening home football game of the Bulldogs.  That game is expected to be on Thursday, September 12, 2013.  The exact time for the public affair has not yet been released but details will be released by the Springfield Public Schools who is the lead agency for the project.

The excitement surrounding opening ceremony is reminiscent of the ground breaking held last year on September 7, 2012.  However, this event will likely be more celebratory with greater crowds coming out to participate.  Members of the Springfield Public Schools administration, Board of Education and sports program representatives,  in addition to Township officials, will be in attendance.  Observers note the irony in the possible presence of Democratic Township Committee officials, particularly Mayor David Amlen and Deputy Mayor Richard Huber, who spoke out against the project and publicly opposed it before reluctantly succumbing to public pressure.  They are currently leading an aimless, questionable investigation that has racked up legal costs and Amlen has expressed regret about changing his mind to support the project because he was not aware of the details of what he was voting on.

The turf installation on the main athletic field is complete.  New curbing and sidewalk has been under construction and new fencing  should be completed by the end of July. Construction and paving of the five tennis courts in the rear will be started mid July. The target date for project completion is mid-August.
