Springfield Patriot Chamber of Commerce Fall Festival and Car Show

On Sunday, October 20th from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., craft and street vendors will line Mountain Avenue from the high school down to Morris Avenue for the fourth annual Springfield Patriot Chamber of Commerce Fall Festival and Car Show.  The event has been listed on the Springfielder.com Community Calendar.  There will be a variety of fun and entertainment for all, including a music festival, multiple bands, an obstacle course, an inflatable slide, a petting zoo, a stilt walker, pony rides and a martial arts presentation.  Best Buy will set up Wii stations and the Springfield Rotary Club will be sponsoring live jazz.  The event is sponsored by the Springfield Business Improvement District, JMK Auto Group, Stew Leonard’s Wines of Springfield, Autoland, Best Buy, and Dancers Pointe.

The Car Show has also been growing in popularity, bringing out nearly 150 cars annually from muscle cars, antiques, and even a Batmobile.  There are 31 categories with trophies given out at the end and three cash prizes with the 1st place winner receiving $300.  The Festival Chairman, Robert Abraham, has been organizing the fall event since it started in 2010.  The smell of food from local restaurants fills the air and a number of area businesses, local clubs, town agencies and organizations set up their tables to showcase their efforts to the community.

The fun fall day has evolved over recent years with some additions.  A horse drawn carriage ride as part of a historical tour was added last year and is expected to return this year.  However, last year’s hot dog eating contest which drew large crowds but was described by one individual involved with the planning as a “logistical nightmare” will not be taking place this year.  To coincide with the festival, the Fire Department is holding an open house from noon to 3:00 p.m.  They will be offering a tour of the firehouse, teaching children about “stop, drop & roll” and giving them a chance to use a fire hose to knock down wooden flames.

The rain date for the event is October 27th.  Anyone interested in registering for a space at the street fair is asked to e-mail festival@springfieldpatriot.com  The fee for a street vendor space is $100 and $300 for a food vendor only area.  There is also a flea market only area registration option for only $15.  The Car Show is managed by G-Wiz Auto Entertainment and the fee to register a car is $20.
