Halloween Decorations on Garden Oval

Halloween Decorations on Garden Oval

Springfield residents love Halloween!  After Superstorm Sandy put a damper on celebrations last year, the community is especially eager to make the most of this year’s ghoulish festivities.  One particular house on Garden Oval whose decorations have become a community staple is a must see for families this Halloween.  The Sunday before Halloween has also been set aside for a few “official” town-wide events for all ages to supplement the usual October 31st door-to-door trick-or-treating.  The events have been listed on the Springfielder.com Community Calendar.

The Township of Springfield Recreation Department, Chamber of Commerce and Municipal Alliance sponsor the spooktacular day that starts at 12:00 p.m. at the Chisholm Community Center on 100 South Springfield Avenue.  Until 12:45 p.m., the public gathers for a “Treat Street” and holiday arts and crafts organized by the Recreation Department.  From 12:45 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., the Chamber of Commerce holds a Costume Contest before the Halloween Parade kicks off at 1:30 p.m.  The route starts at the Chisholm Community Center and ends at Jonathan Dayton High School.

As in previous years, a “Trunk or Treat” organized by the Thelma L. Sandmeier Elementary School PTA will be held in the parking lot of the high school following the parade.  The official start time is 2:00 p.m. and it will conclude at 4:00 p.m.  This offers families an opportunity to trick or treat safely and off the streets by filling up the parking lot with parked cars and open, decorated trunks filled with candy.  Admission is $10 a car.  Information requests or questions regarding the “Trunk or Treat” can be directed to Sandra Louro at trunkortreatsprgfld@gmail.com or Kelley Hirsch at president@tlspta.com
