Same-sex couples in Springfield joined others in New Jersey who applied for their marriage license on Monday after Governor Chris Christie dropped his appeal of the gay marriage ruling.  Three couples have stopped by the Clerk’s Office at the Springfield Municipal Building to ask about a license.  However according to the Clerk, only one application for a license was received on the first day same-sex marriage was legalized.  To her knowledge, a date for the ceremony has not yet been decided.

According to the 2010 American Community Survey by the United States Census Bureau, same-sex couple households represent between 0.67-0.95 % of total couple households in New Jersey.
