The annual Springfield Veterans Day Tribute will take place on Monday, November 11, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Springfield Veterans Memorial Park. The event has been listed on the Springfielder.com Community Calendar. The ceremony, lasting less than one hour, brings together veterans from the local American Legion and Jewish War Veterans posts, military members, township officials and members of the public who attend to show their support. In case of inclement weather, the event is moved indoors from the park at the corner of Shunpike Road and Mountain Avenue  to the Township Municipal building.

Representatives of the veterans organizations speak in honor of their comrades and in past years, students from area schools participate with musical selections or readings. Springfield has had dozens of residents serve in America’s wars and twenty-seven have fallen in combat during World War I, World War II and the Vietnam War. Their names are recorded on memorial plaques around town:

W. Budd Brill, Raymond Chisholm, Monnatto Monnico, Bertram L. Warner, William Alexander, Amos Arnold, George R. Boynton, J. Wendell Collins, Charles S. Drake, Robert B. Koster, John A. Martyn, Raymond G. Meyer, Louis H. Murphy, John McGeehan, Patsy Pasquale, Edward E. Phillips, Robert Platt, Ovide L. Ste Marie, George S. Stiles, Charles S. Stokes, Thomas C. Street, Raymond Tansey, Arnold M. Thompson, Charles E. Zwigard, Robert E. Bennett, III, Dennis J. Coll, Robert L. Walter

Because of the holiday, the Township Committee Workshop meeting regularly scheduled for the Monday before the first Tuesday meeting of the month has been rescheduled for Tuesday, November 12th at 6:00 p.m.
