Jewish Learning Center Hanukkah Celebration

Jewish Learning Center Hanukkah Celebration

The Jewish Learning Center of Springfield is hosting a “Grand Public Menorah Lighting” on Sunday, December 1 at 4:30 p.m.  The event has been listed on the Springfielder.com Community Calendar.  The general public is invited to attend the free celebration at 810 South Springfield Avenue (on the corner of Hillside Avenue).

According the Facebook invitation, the program includes music, latkes, donuts and chocolate coins.  Rabbi Mendy Blesofsky indicated township officials to include members of the Township Committee, Fire Chief and Police Chief will be attending as well.  It has been many years since there has been a public menorah lighting and Hanukkah celebration in Springfield for varied and disputed reasons.  Hanukkah, known as the Festival of Lights, coincided with Thanksgiving this year and began in the evening of Wednesday, November 27 and ends in the evening of Thursday, December 5.

Rabbi Mendy Belsofsky, the director of the Jewish Learning Center, and his wife, Aidella, went to great lengths to build custom illuminated dreidels from parts purchased at Home Depot to decorate the lawn of the Center.  Also on the Center lawn is an 8-foot menorah that will be the centerpiece of the evening.
