Investors Bank on Morris Avenue

The following press release was provided by the Springfield Police Department:

On Wednesday 12/18/2013 at 12:48 pm, the Springfield Police Department was contacted by the Investor’s Savings Bank in Springfield reporting that a bank robbery had just occurred. The bank is located at 193 Morris Avenue which is at the intersection of Linden Avenue and on the northside of the town along the border with the Township of Millburn.

A lone male had entered the bank, grabbed a deposit slip from a counter in the lobby area and walked up to a teller window placing the deposit slip and a handwritten note in front of the teller. The note indicated the suspect had a bomb on and demanded money be placed in a plastic bag he handed to the teller. The suspect fled the bank and was gone prior to the police arrival.

No individuals inside of the bank were injured during this robbery and aside from the note, no weapon was shown.

An search of the area conducted by police officers from Springfield and Millburn failed to locate the suspect but detectives are viewing surveillance footage from many external cameras at businesses and the adjacent General Greene Shopping Center located near the bank.

The suspect is described as a black male approximately mid 30’s to early 40’s in age. He was described as being about 6’3 in height and weighing 200-220. Suspect was cleanshaven.

Clothing description was a black pull over crew neck sweatshirt, a black knit winter type watch cap and faded or stone washed color denim jeans. The suspect did not wear any mask during the robbery.

The amount of money taken is not being disclosed.

Anyone with information or who happened to be in the area and may have observed the suspect running from the bank are asked to contact the Springfield Police Department at (973) 376-0400.
